It's mind-blowing country up there. Be prepared for the weather... we went in late August, and it was quite chilly
though it was over 100 degrees here in the Valley. I suggest a mid weight jacket, warm pants, warm sox, and
sturdy shoes. You can always peel off if you get warm, but man, it is hard to enjoy yourself
if you are shivering. And plan to stay a few days, it's worth taking your time.

I agree, Spud Point Crab Company in Bodega Bay makes the BEST clam chowder in California, maybe even the entire country! I've talked to people who've come from all over just to try this flavor-packed chowder.

You might also consider stocking up at one of the great local groceries and delis, and picniking at a winery.
Most have outdoor picnic tables for you to do just that! We can do quite well with just cheese, fruit, local bread,
and meat for my guy. The selections at markets in wine country groceries are greater than those in our
local Valley grocery stores. If you are still hungry, just stop for dessert at one of the Guru's fine choices above! Yummy! This way, you have saved enough to buy a bottle of wine to take home from your trip.

I read the article in the Sunday Times and was surprised that it didn't mention East Brother Light Station.
The lighthouse on East Brother Island in San Francisco Bay was established 1874 and is now operated as a bed and breakfast inn. Guest arrive at 4pm and are served appetizers and champagne followed by a multi-course gourmet dinner and a full breakfast the next morning. Spending a night on the Bay is a one-of-a-kind experience and a great getaway.

The lighthouse is run by a non-profit organization and the revenue from the inn is used for the ongoing restoration and maintenance of the historic buildings.
To find out more about East Brother Light Station and to make a reservation go to www.ebls.org.

That looks great! We are headed to LA/Santa Barbara March 13. Not local, perhaps, but plan to spend one
night in Monterey on the way back to the North State. We like the "Bide a Wee" cabins on Asilomar Drive, and my
guy likes the local golf course a few blocks away! But any place with hot springs comes first on my list. Hope you
make it to Desert Hot Springs if you have not already. Different views, but wonderful for the body and spirit.

Since Point Reyes lighthouse is not open seven days a week, I would suggest that potential visitors visit the site's web page at http://www.nps.gov/pore/planyourvisit/hours.htm/. The limited hours are not an issue just to visit the area, but for anyone wanting to enter the lighthouse it is best to know when it is open.

I just wanted to mention that Princeton Seafood hosts a monthly car show in Pillar Point Harbor on the first Thursday of the month. While anytime is a great time to visit the coast, come check out the classic cars, custom trucks and all other kinds of neat vehicles.

Cool Harbor Nights.....First Thursday of the Month from 4 until sunset. Free

Give Peggy a call at Huck Finn at 650-726-7113 or see her website at http://huckfinnsportfishing.com/. She has whale watching trips that leave from Pillar Point Harbor in Half Moon Bay. After you day on the water come in for a steaming hot bowl of homemade clam chowder at Princeton Seafood CO.
